Play date!

Caitlin and I were able to meet up with our friends Lily and Sara for a play date on Sunday – thank goodness the weather cleared up! We met at the Crowd Favorite offices in LoDo and let the girls go at it.  They were the most aware of each other since they met in our mom’s group and had some good staring matches.  Lily showed off her professional rolling skills while Caitlin demonstrated the fine technique of chewing on socks and sitting.  Both the girls are talking a lot more, mostly to the world in general. The moms enjoyed some quality time to catch up and swap stories and tips – there really is so much to talk about with these little people.  I will have to practice my action photography skills as I think I ended up with more blurry shots then reasonably focused ones…I’ll keep at it!

Hanging Out

A quick video from about a week ago.

6 months old!

Caitlin celebrated her 6 month birthday on Sunday – we can’t believe it’s been 6 months already!  She is doing great on all fronts – and we are especially grateful she is sleeping well.  She got her next round of shots from the pediatrician on Monday – her cries are still upsetting to me.  She’s now 18.5 lbs and 27 inches.  You can see her hair is growing out – a nice healthy fuzz right now – as are her teeth (2 on the bottom).

She has been eating rice cereal and we’ve moved on to oatmeal.  Next up are veggies and fruits.  Grandma and Grandpa P have been getting their taste of frenetic Colorado weather…80 degrees one day, snowing the next…just a reminder to always wear layers!  In between they’ve been taking the girls (Caitlin and her pooch, Noonan) on some great walks and enjoying the fall colors.

Caitlin was so excited about the arrival of her new cousin on October 9th – welcome Levi!

Sitting and Eating

My new things are sitting up by myself (though sometimes the room tilts on me) and getting pretty solid with the eating thing. Check me out.

The big people have also taken to piling all sorts of stuff on me when we go outside, good thing I can make this look work.

First Solid Food

The big people got a new contraption to put me in. They’ve sat me in it a few times before, and today they strapped me in and gave me some lumpy milk with one of those spoon things I see them using.

Not sure about all this…

Moving Along

My how time flies!  It seems to go even faster now that I’ve headed back to work. The first couple weeks were definitely tough and I know there are more adjustments to come.  Fortunately, Caitlin has Grandma Peterson watching her with cameo appearances by Grandpa Peterson. Grandpa P has become the Chief Bouncer – one of Caitlin’s favorite activities in the late afternoons.

Caitlin was very resistant to take a bottle after we had enjoyed three plus months of nursing, however, Grandma P brings an arsenal of techniques to the table and now seems to have gotten Caitlin over that hump. In fact, you can see that Grandma P has already taught Caitlin how to hold the bottle for herself and pose for pictures!

Caitlin is still rolling around and we are practicing sitting, although that still seems to end in some sort of baby yoga position. Caitlin’s latest favorite toy is her exersaucer, already outfitted with a baby cell phone for calls, an electronic apple that talks at random times, and plenty of different textures for her new tooth! Yes, while we knew it had to be in the works with all the drooling, one of her bottom teeth has finally cut through. More to come on that front, but for now she seems to be handling it just fine.

Two other couples that we spend time with locally have just welcomed new baby girls to their families – one yesterday and one today.  We are so thrilled for both families – welcome Baby Hermann and Baby Hatley!

Who’s Your (Gran)Daddy?

Ever since Caitlin was born we have been wondering whether Caitlin looks more like one of us and if so, then which one, or if she has broken the mold and started her own look.  We now have an answer!  Courtesy of Grandma and Grandpa Peterson, they found this picture of Grandpa Peterson when he was about the same age that bears a striking resemblance to some of Caitlin’s recent pictures.

Caitlin Rolls Over

After showing hints of interest and starting to kick and arch, this past weekend Caitlin decided it was time to roll over! She is still as talkative as ever and in the clip above, you get to hear some of her squeaks, squeals and razzberries. You can also she that she has fully developed her reach and grab technique as she snags my camera cord a couple times. She has mastered the art of rolling onto her right side and has gone to the left a few times. Next step is to figure out how to get back to her back!

August Happenings

August has been a busy month! Caitlin enjoyed her four month birthday, complete with another round of shots – she is still not a fan, but who would be?  She’s over 16 pounds now and was at the 90th percentiles for height and weight – clearly not missing out on any meal opportunities. We got the okay from her pediatrician to start solids (a.k.a. rice cereal) any time now, but I want to wait a bit longer. She is definitely interested in what we’re eating though, reaching for whatever we have in our hands.

We have had lots of visitors this month – Grandma and Grandpa King, Alex’s newly married cousin Ryan and wife Tara, and my side of the family. Grandma and Grandpa Peterson completed their move to Colorado, although the settling-in part is still underway. Caitlin (along with us :-) ) got a chance to spend some time with her Uncle Ryan and Aunt Tami, and her favorite cousin, Emma.

Caitlin was baptized this month at a church in Golden, CO. She was squirmy…drawing lots of “My she is a strong baby” comments but she was in a really good mood and had no problem with the water. Grandma and Grandpa Peterson were also nice enough to take Caitlin on a photo shoot when I had a conflict…..who knew an hour spent trying to get a sad baby to be happy could be so exhausting?!  I have seen one sneak peak shot so far that looks good!

We ‘graduated’ from our mom and baby group this past week since I’m headed back to work on September 2nd.  We really enjoyed the group, getting to know other mom and babies, especially Sara and Lily, and there were so many great topics of things to think about, plan and/or do with these amazing babies.  As a new mom, it was a great place to ask questions, get reassurances, and make sure I’m not the only crazy one out there :-)

Caitlin has moved quickly to mastering the art of rolling over.  After showing some interest and doing some assisted rolls, yesterday she started rolling over by herself – not just once, but multiple times.  She’s got the right side roll down and is working on the left.  Now she’s got to figure out how to roll herself back to her back since she gets tired and then ends up in a face plant.
